Top Cocktail Bars In Belfast
Last weekend, I decided to surprise Andrew with a trip up to Belfast. I figured with all the road closures and crowds arriving into Dublin, heading north would be the best option. So, on Saturday morning that’s where we went! We were both so surprised with how many cool cocktail bars we stumbled upon. Here is a round up of the ones we visited.
the perch
Before heading for dinner on Saturday night, we popped into The Perch for a drink. This converted warehouse (decorated with tonnes bird cages) has a great rooftop bar on the 5th floor. The space is open and the bar is situated in the centre. Half inside, and the other half out. I reckon this would be a great spot on a warm summers day. Drinks were definitely on the cheaper end of the scale here, and with live music playing, we could have stayed here all night. If your heading here on a cooler night, wrap up well as it can be very cold or take advantage of the blankets they provide.
Berts Jazz Bar
Stepping into Berts Jazz Bar is what I imagine entering a New York bar during the 1930s would be like. The Art Deco interiors and beautiful jazz melodies really help to set the mood. Not only that, the bar men are all dressed to impress and put on an incredible show while preparing each cocktail. They had a simple menu – and while I opted for a different type of gin and tonic, Andrew’s cocktail was super slick
Babel
I think Babel was my favourite of all the cocktail bars we visited over the weekend. Located on the rooftop of the Bullitt Hotel, it has stunning panoramic views of Belfast city all around. It also has a really nice garden area outside. Decorated with stunning greenery and pretty pink interiors – I did not want to leave. After much deliberation, I decided to try the Sky-Line Spritz. A beautiful combination of Prosecco, Crème de Violette, Passionfruit Shrub and Lemon. It tasted just like Parma violets (those little purple sweets that always made an appearance at birthday parties!) which are one of my favourites. Definitely add it to your Belfast hit list!
Observatory
On the upper end of the scale is the luxury sky bar – The Observatory. Located in the newly opened Grand Central Hotel (where we stayed!) This lookout point showcases some of the best views in the city and is now the highest bar in all of Ireland!
While it is a little bit on the pricey side (approx €20 per drink), you kind of expect it for a sky bar. Also, so much effort goes into preparing each and every cocktail, and with the gorgeous views all around you, you really don’t mind paying for this treat. Even though preference is given to guests of the hotel, we couldn’t get in on Saturday night as it was just too busy. Instead, we visited on Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty empty in the main bar at around 2 pm.
I’d recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment and be sure to take note of the smart dress code.
