Prague: A beautiful couple’s getaway
I visited Prague for the first time in March last year, and I have to say, it quickly became one of my favourite cities. The weather was dry and sunny, albeit quite cold in the shade. There are just so many places to see and do around every winding corner, so if you’re visiting, don’t expect to ever be bored.
Day 1
We arrived Saturday late afternoon and took an Uber straight to our hotel. I could hardly believe how cheap it was – I think it cost us about €5! We were staying just beside the Old Town Square so we decided to wander around for the rest of the day. We quickly came across the famous Astronomical Clock in the centre of the square, which was just beautiful. On the hour, crowds of people gather around to catch a glimpse of the fascinating mechanical performance including a procession of Apostles and moving statues.
Before we arrived, we had booked a table in one of the top restaurants in Prague for Saturday night – Wine O’Clock – and boy am I glad we did. The restaurant was very small, seating about 10 people in total, but we were by no means crowded. Here we enjoyed a variety of wines from across Italy and the Czech Republic and a selection of tapas-style food to accompany them. I could have sat there all night.
Day 2
The following day, we spent exploring. We climbed Petrin Lookout Tower which provided an unbelievable view of the city and then visited Prague Castle. The Gothic architecture was just amazing. So delicate and ornate. We followed this with lunch overlooking a vineyard and an amazing view. I was in my element. On route home, we explored some hidden spots under Charles Bridge. After that, we wandered back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
Day 3
We took it easy for the rest of the morning until the time came to meet our tour guide and commence the tasting tour of the city. The tour was organised by two Prague locals – Jan and Zuzi and was one of the highlights of the trip. Jan brought us around the city, sharing the history of the city and culture through several key locations. It was amazing. We learned so much about the history of Prague, and met some nice people along the way – not to mention returning to the hotel so full we were fast asleep in no time!
