Krabi, Thailand
After the best four days in Phi Phi we hopped on a ferry to Krabi. Where we would spend the next three nights before heading to the east islands of Thailand.
Getting there
We took the 10.30 am ferry which I would highly recommend. It is a bigger boat and way less rocky than the earlier one. We headed up to the top deck to get a bit of sun but be warned – wear suncream. After just two hours we were burnt to a crisp!! Our ferry included a free transfer from the port in Krabi to our hotel which was super handy. We did see one Spanish couple paying for their transfer again so make sure to check the cost of the ferry and get yourself a deal.
Staying there
We stayed at the Marina Express Hotel in Ao Nang. The location was perfect although it is right next door to a mosque. Each morning we were woken at 5 am or so for the morning prayer but it wasn’t the worst. The accommodation cost just €90 for the three nights and it was really beautiful. Probably the best interiors we have seen so far.
Eating There
We only really ventured out for breakfast while we stayed here. We found a really nice cafe called Café 8.98. I think it was run by an Aussie lady and she was so nice. The food was just like brunch at home and the coffee was the best we had since Chiang Mai.
Other than that, when we got hungry we just grabbed some street food. This is cheaper and more often than not tastier than the restaurants.
Things to do
Krabi is so central and really gives you the best access to the islands if you were planning a short trip. You can hop on a tour and do a different island every day, there are also full day trip that cover 4,7 or 9 islands.
We decided to just pay Ko Poda a visit as we heard it was the least touristy and had crystal clear waters and it didn’t disappoint. We got the long tail boat in the morning from the pier and paid about 600 baht total. This included our return trip but separate to that we had to pay a national park fee when we arrived. It looks and feels like a bit of scam when you get there but it is what it is and everyone has to pay it.
The island gets busy for an hour or two in the afternoon from the multiple island tours stopping off but apart from that it was not crowded at all. There are a couple of hidden beaches away from where most people go and you can definitely get away from it all here.
The water was so blue and I would say snorkelling would be amazing here – we didn’t have any unfortunately but I would suggest bringing some with you if you do!
Other than this tour we really just relaxed. Krabi is way more affordable than the islands and you can eat and drink for almost have the price.
